Sanctioning and Affiliation

What keeps you from simply buying a uniform and promoting yourself to whatever rank you desire? The same thing that keeps you from saving your tuition and printing up a diploma for whatever degree you desire: credibility. Your diploma from CWRU is a seal of approval from a credible, recognized sanctioning organization. Kim's Martial Arts School headquartered in Fairview Park sponsors and sanctions the Case Western Reserve University Taekwondo Club's training program and ranks.

Grandmaster John H. Kim's reputation in the world Martial Arts Community spans more than 40 years. Grandmaster Kim's marital art accomplishments are many and include being the Captain of the 1968 Korean Olympic Judo Team in Mexico City, holding Grandmaster ranks in Taekwondo (8th Dan), Judo (8th Dan) and Hapkido (6th Dan). The Phoenix is fortunate to have the sanctioning stamp of approval of such a world class, high ranking Grandmaster who sets the club's formal training curriculum. It is through Grandmaster Kim's sponsorship of our club in the United Martial Arts Black Belt Association (UMBA) that the club members receive their certified ranks in the art of Taewkondo.

The Phoenix owes the late Grandmaster John H. Kim and his wife Mrs. Betsy Kim our on going gratitude for their support of the club for over 15 years.
